Asus Eee PC X101 Review

The new ASUS Eee PC X101 may have a strange name but this new Netbook, slated to come out next month, is a little workhorse that’s going to give the MacBook Air a run for its money. The best part is, the price comes in at an ultra-competitive price of only two hundred dollars. This new Asus Netbook has stirred up a lot of buzz and its release is highly anticipated given its cost and comparable features that’s sure to offer users an excellent machine at an approachable price.

The ASUS Eee PC X101 is about 0.7 inches thick and weighs in at less than a thousand grams. You can run either Widows 7 or MeeGo, Intel’s answer to Google Android or Apple iOS. Intel built this thing from the ground up and it’s costs about half as much as many other notebooks in the same category. It’s the companies’ thinnest netbook yet and will be available in four colors: White, Red, Brown, and Black. Its performance is matched only by its elegance and its style puts it in the league of some of the best-looking netbooks currently out there.
The Asus X101 has two USB ports, a full size keyboard and track pad, and is incredibly fast for something that costs so little. Though it doesn’t have an extensive feature set, you can also have a Micro SD slot. It runs on Intel Atom N455 processor and has 1GB of memory. One of the biggest arguments though is the fact that the X101 runs on MeeGo. This operating system has gotten a bad reputation. It’s lukewarm reception, since its debut, seemed dead in the water but Asus has revived hope that MeeGo will become a top competitor against the likes of Windows and iOS. Intel hopes to compete with a web store filled with all of the downloadable apps a tablet or network user can get.
Users shouldn’t be concerned because there have been a lot of improvements to the latest version of MeeGo. It has all of the essential components, access to social networks, and anything else you’d expect from a netbook. It uses a chromium browser to surf the web and works very smooth. It loads very quickly to meet the demands of the pickiest of netbook users. It is important to note that, if MeeGo use is a concern for users, you will be able to run Windows 7 on the device at a later date but it will increase the price. It’s not certain as to what the difference in price will be though.
Regardless of how you feel about your current device, this is a great option both in function and affordability. The new ASUS Eee PC X101 gets us just another step closer to total affordability. Anyone who wants to use a computer, or needs one, can pick one of these up starting next month.
